Fire Contained, YEAH!
Good news for the air quality and homes above Highway 11 as the Pinnacle Mountain Fire is 100% contained! Great job and thank you to our brave responders! Bad new is five million dollars of the taxpayer’s cash goes up in smoke. There are a couple of lessons we can learn here, make sure your insurance is equal to your investment and only you can prevent forest fires (this one was caused by a camp fire irresponsibly burning out of control). I remember the first time I heard Smokey the Bear tell me that only I could prevent forest fires. I was like 4 years old and I thought that was bit too much responsibility for me and that maybe we should all be accountable to the task. I didn’t sleep for a week. What exacerbated the situation was the lack of rainfall we’d been experiencing up until last week. Eighty days or so without rain will do a number on your water table and fire preparedness. While we are far from out of the woods with the drought, we are finally good with the forest fire. And I’ve been relieved of duty of sole protector of the forests.
The utter lack of rain has caused the level of Lake Jocassee drop 11 feet and Lake Hartwell is down 10 feet. Heading to a Clemson game you’ll see a lot of orange along the shoreline, but ideally you shouldn’t. The good news for us on Keowee – and often one of the main reasons to purchase on the lake – is the lake is down about 2.5 feet from normal creating a nice little bubble, “What drought?”.
As for business we added two new listings over the week; a spectacular home in Waterford Ridge and a nice, heavily wooded, peaceful, inexpensive lot in Pointe Harbor. We were also able to close on a lot in Little Keowee Bay bringing our total sides closed to 76 for the year. That’s liquidating some real estate, if we do say so ourselves!
It’s a great time of year to get some good pictures of your property showing the views, slope, size, etc. as the leaves are getting close to being completely down. I suggest early morning or late afternoon shots as a lower sun tends to have a much more dramatic effect.
Until next week!
P.S. the Clemson Tigers are #2!!!!!!!! Go Tigers!!!!
