Disregarding lake rules can be deadly
Expert: When life jackets are worn, nobody mourns – By Jake Grove – Just one fatality on Lake Hartwell and the other waterways around the Upstate is too much for anyone, but for Scott Lusk and the rest of the U.S. Army Corp of engineers, the 2017 lake season was a particularly rough one. “You never want a fatality, but last year we had six or seven recreation-based fatalities on Lake Hartwell,” said Lusk, the natural resource specialist and park ranger with the Savannah District and Hartwell Lake Project for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. “And half of those fatalities happened in one spot and all of them came in a short period of time. Once you got through one, it seemed like another came behind it.”
