Wyche Pavilion
The Wyche Pavilion is a historic landmark in downtown Greenville, South Carolina, situated along the Reedy River near the Peace Center. Originally constructed in 1904 by engineer and industrial architect Joseph Emory Sirrine, the building served as a paint shop for the adjacent Greenville Coach Factory. With the advent of the automobile, the factory ceased operations in 1911, and in 1925, the building became the home of Duke’s Mayonnaise, founded by Eugenia Thomas Slade Duke.
Today, the Wyche Pavilion stands as one of the oldest structures in downtown Greenville and is owned by the Peace Center. It has been repurposed as an open-air event venue, hosting various events and serving as a popular location for photoshoots. The pavilion is part of the Peace Center’s $36 million campus redevelopment project, which includes renovations to enhance its functionality while preserving its historic character.
The building features a distinctive architectural style with large windows on both floors, a flat roof, and a central cupola. Its design reflects the industrial heritage of the early 20th century and contributes to the unique character of the downtown Greenville area.
