Vine Hill
Vine Hill is a historic residence located at 368 East Main Street in Pendleton, South Carolina. Constructed in 1830, the home earned its name when an early owner discovered fourteen different types of vines flourishing in its garden. It was presented as a wedding gift to Elizabeth Carolina Ball upon her marriage to Lieutenant Edmund Templar Shubrick of the U.S. Navy. Local lore suggests that Shubrick’s friendship with General William Tecumseh Sherman may have contributed to Pendleton being spared from destruction during the Civil War.
