Trinity Baptist Church in Gaffney
The sanctuary that now houses Trinity Baptist Church in Gaffney was originally built in 1847, replacing an older log‑cabin place of worship that formerly served local Baptists. This building — a historic brick structure — was once used by a congregation known as Ephesus Baptist Church (later known as Limestone Springs Baptist Church). The bricks used in construction include local masonry mixed with ballast brick from ships arriving at Charleston, reflecting building practices of the time.
In 1983 the present congregation acquired the sanctuary and adopted the name Trinity Baptist Church. Since then, the congregation has maintained and restored the building, preserving its historic character while using it as an active house of worship.
Today, Trinity Baptist Church is located at 907 E. O’Neal Street, Gaffney, SC 29340. Under the leadership of Dr. Ray St. John (pastor since 1987) the church identifies as a Christ‑exalting independent Baptist congregation. Their worship style remains traditional: services include Sunday school at 10:00 a.m., Morning Worship at 11:00 a.m., and a Children’s Service and afternoon service at 2:00 p.m. on Sundays; midweek fellowship/prayer/Bible study begins at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesdays.
Spiritually and culturally, Trinity emphasizes the authority of the Bible, traditional gospel preaching, a family‑centered congregation, and conservative music. As such, the church blends deep respect for its historic sanctuary with a living, contemporary ministry to Gaffney’s community.
