Spann Methodist Church
The Spann Methodist Church, located at 150 Church Street in Ward, South Carolina, is a historic church and cemetery listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Established around 1840, the current structure was built in 1873 and remains largely unchanged since its construction. It is a one-story, frame building with Greek Revival architectural elements, including a tetrastyle portico with a pedimented gable roof.
Historical Significance
- Establishment: The church was founded on the plantation of John Spann, approximately one mile north of its present location, before November 1805.
- Cemetery: The adjacent cemetery was established around 1842 and contains a significant collection of funerary art from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
As of 2023, Spann United Methodist Church is an active congregation within the South Carolina Conference of The United Methodist Church. The church is part of the Ridge Spring Charge and is located in the Greenwood District
