Silver Springs Baptist Church
Silver Spring Baptist Church is a historic African-American congregation located at 515 North Mechanic Street, Pendleton, SC 29670. Founded in 1874, the church was named after a natural spring on its original property. In its early years, the church also served as an educational center for local youth, including Jane Edna Hunter, who later founded the Phillis Wheatley Association.
The current brick building, completed in 1962, continues to serve as a place of worship and community gathering. The church has hosted events such as the Town of Pendleton’s “Ask the Mayor” forum, highlighting its role in civic engagement.
