Robert J. and Lula Ginn House
The Robert J. and Lula Ginn House, located at 106 Webb Street in Anderson, South Carolina, is a distinguished example of early 20th-century Colonial Revival architecture. Built in 1910, the house has retained much of its original character and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 23, 2019.
This two-story residence features a hipped roof with intersecting gables and full-height polygonal bays topped with massive pediments. The exterior is notable for its extensive wraparound porch supported by sixteen Tuscan columns and an entablature. The house is constructed on a granite rubble stone foundation, complemented by terraced landscaping, flared and graduated cheek-walled stone and concrete entry steps, and capped granite retaining walls along its street and alley elevations. The property also retains one original outbuilding.
Robert J. Ginn was a prominent local businessman, and the construction of this home reflects the prosperity and architectural tastes of Anderson’s early 20th-century elite. The Ginn House exemplifies a facet of Colonial Revival design that emphasized the adaptation of colonial architectural details rather than academic replication of colonial-era buildings.
