Ralph John Ramer House

The Ralph John Ramer House is a notable historic residence located at 402 Boulevard in Anderson, South Carolina. Constructed in 1930, it stands as an exemplary model of early 20th-century Tudor Revival architecture. The house was designed by architect Henry Irven Gaines and built by European artisans who had previously worked on the Biltmore Estate, contributing to its refined craftsmanship and architectural detail.

Ralph John Ramer, the original owner, was a prominent figure in Anderson. His roles included businessman, government official, military officer, and civic leader, making him one of the city’s most influential residents of his time. Ramer was determined to build Anderson’s most elegant home, and his vision was realized in this residence.

The house occupies a 2-acre lot and features hallmark elements of the Tudor Revival style, such as steeply pitched gables, decorative half-timbering, and intricate masonry. Its architectural significance and well-preserved condition led to its inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places on February 10, 1992.

While the Ralph John Ramer House remains a private residence, much of its architectural detail can be appreciated from the public road that fronts the property. For those interested in historic architecture, it represents a significant example of early 20th-century design in the region.
