Park’s Dry Goods Store
The Park’s Dry Goods Store was a prominent retail establishment located at 712 South Main Street in Greenville’s historic West End. Constructed around 1891, the building is a two-part brick commercial block featuring a bracketed and denticulated wood cornice, segmental-arched windows on the second floor, and a decorative stringer course with dentils.
This structure is a contributing property to the West End Commercial Historic District, which is recognized for its significance as Greenville’s second “downtown.” The district includes 20 commercial properties dating from approximately 1869 to 1939, reflecting the city’s commercial development during that period.
In the early 20th century, the building housed Park’s Dry Goods Store, a retail outlet offering a variety of goods to the local community. By the 1920s, the store had transitioned into the Greenville Bargain House, continuing to serve the retail needs of the area. Later, it became a Western Auto Store, adapting to the changing commercial landscape .
Today, the building stands as a testament to Greenville’s rich commercial history and architectural heritage. While it no longer operates as a retail store, its historical significance is preserved within the West End Commercial Historic District.
