Ozzie Anderson House

Nestled along South Harper Street, the Ozzie Anderson House at 410 S. Harper Street stands as a quiet, graceful testament to Laurens’s post–World War I era of growth and community pride. Erected circa 1922 for E. O. “Ozzie” Anderson, this residence blends modest Prairie-style bungalow lines with vernacular touches—a low‑sloping hipped roof, a broad, welcoming front porch, and gently horizontal proportions that emphasize comfort and harmony with its surroundings.

The porch, stretching across the façade, is supported by squat piers that ground the house in a friendly, approachable silhouette. Windows—likely grouped in bands—flood the interiors with daylight, reflecting the era’s emphasis on livable, modern domestic design. The home is embraced by mature shade trees and modestly terraced lawns, complete with the granite retaining walls that are signature elements of the South Harper streetscape.

While not linked to state politics or grand civic roles, Ozzie Anderson and his family were meaningful members of Laurens’s social fabric. City directories from 1948 list E. Oswald Anderson, followed by F. Rosalie Anderson in 1975—indicating the home’s sustained association with a locally rooted family. Their long-term presence mirrors the district’s hallmark: everyday residents whose steady lives and craftsmanship formed the backbone of early 20th-century Laurens prosperity.

Today, privately owned and not open for public tours, the Ozzie Anderson House remains a quietly enduring landmark. Its unassuming elegance and period details enrich the architectural tapestry of South Harper Street—reminding passersby that the story of a place is told not only through its grand homes but also through the humbler dwellings of those who built community one front porch at a time.
