Oakland Plantation
Oakland Plantation – Simpsonville, South Carolina
Located in Simpsonville, this plantation was established in 1823 by Dr. Thomas Austin on land originally granted by King George III in 1761. The property includes a main house and several outbuildings, including one of only three remaining slave dwellings in Greenville County still on its original site. In 2024, the Upstate Preservation Trust acquired the plantation house, ten outbuildings, and over 50 acres of land. The site is now owned by Greenville County and is undergoing restoration to serve as a public park and historical site. The restoration aims to preserve the estate’s historical context and provide educational opportunities about the region’s history.
