O.L.P. Jackson House
The O.L.P. Jackson House, located at 502 East Main Street in Union, South Carolina, is a historic residence built around 1915. It is a contributing property within the East Main Street–Douglass Heights Historic District, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.
The house is a one-and-a-half-story weatherboard residence with Dutch Colonial Revival influences. Notable features include:
- A gambrel roof with two shed-roof dormers
- A second-story hipped-roof bay
- A one-story porch with battered posts on stuccoed piers, extending to the left façade to form a porte cochère
These elements contribute to the house’s distinctive appearance within the historic district.
The house was built for Oscar L.P. Jackson, a prominent physician in Union during the early 20th century. Dr. Jackson was known for his contributions to the local medical community and his involvement in civic affairs. His residence reflects the status and influence of medical professionals in Union during that era.
As a private residence, the O.L.P. Jackson House is not open to the public. However, its architectural features can be appreciated from the street. Visitors are encouraged to view the exterior respectfully from public sidewalks or roads.
