Mount Olivet Presbyterian Church
Mount Olivet Presbyterian Church is a historic congregation located near Winnsboro in Fairfield County, South Carolina. Its roots trace back to the mid-18th century, making it one of the oldest Presbyterian communities in the region.
- Early Origins: The congregation was organized before 1785, initially known as Wolf Pit Church, later renamed Wateree Church, and finally adopting the name Mount Olivet in 1800.
- Current Building: The present church structure was completed in 1869. It is a one-story, rectangular, front-gabled building constructed with stuccoed brick walls scored to resemble cut stone and rests on a granite foundation.
- Cemetery: Adjacent to the church is a large cemetery enclosed by a cast-iron fence, containing gravestones dating back to 1795, reflecting the area’s early settler history.
