Morgan House
The Morgan House, located at 416 Church Street in Central, South Carolina, is a significant historic residence constructed in 1893. Originally built in the Queen Anne style, it underwent modifications around 1917 to incorporate Classical Revival architectural elements, including a porch supported by Doric columns. The house was built by Jeptha Norton Morgan, a prominent local merchant and banker, in anticipation of his marriage to Minnie Eugenia Morgan. The Morgan family played a vital role in Central’s development, operating a successful mercantile business and co-founding the Bank of Central.
In 1995, the Central Heritage Society acquired the property, transforming it into the Central History Museum. The museum showcases exhibits related to the town’s history and the Morgan family’s contributions to the community. The Morgan House was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2001, recognizing its architectural and historical significance.
