McQuiston Divinity Hall
McQuiston Divinity Hall serves as the historic and architectural centerpiece of Erskine Theological Seminary, the graduate theological division of Erskine College. Established in 1837 by the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, the seminary was founded to provide scholastic and theological training for young men entering the ministry.
The seminary’s first dedicated building, McQuiston Divinity Hall, was constructed in 1938 with a generous $40,000 gift from Dr. and Mrs. W.H. McQuiston of Monticello, Arkansas. This donation enabled the seminary to have a permanent home for the first time. The building’s design reflects the institution’s commitment to providing a conducive environment for theological education and spiritual formation.
In 1983, the seminary received a significant $1 million donation from Dr. and Mrs. Parker Bowie of Iva, South Carolina, leading to the construction of a new building. This development marked a new chapter in the seminary’s growth and expansion.
Today, McQuiston Divinity Hall stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of Erskine Theological Seminary’s mission to prepare individuals for service in the Christian ministry. Its presence on the Erskine College campus underscores the institution’s dedication to integrating faith and learning in the heart of Due West.
