King Chapel AME
King’s Chapel African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church is a historic congregation located at 135 Vance Street in Pendleton, South Carolina. Established in 1865, the church began as a gathering in Simon Robinson’s home. In 1869, land was purchased for $20 to build the Pendleton Colored Methodist Church, and by 1871, the first permanent wooden structure was completed. The current brick building was erected in 1957 under the leadership of Pastor Castell Jackson, with major sanctuary renovations occurring in 2014.
King’s Chapel is recognized for its longstanding commitment to spiritual growth, community service, and social justice. The church is part of the Pendleton Historic Walking Tour and is located near a historical marker commemorating the first African-American public school in Pendleton.
