Indian River Fruit Store
The Indian River Fruit Store is a historic building situated at 718 South Main Street in Greenville’s West End Commercial Historic District. Constructed between 1888 and 1897, it exemplifies the Victorian commercial architecture prevalent in the area during that period. The store was among the early fruit dealers in the region, contributing to the commercial vitality of Greenville’s second “downtown.”
Today, the building stands as a contributing property within the West End Commercial Historic District, which encompasses 15 historic structures reflecting Greenville’s commercial development from the late 19th to early 20th centuries. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1993, with a boundary increase in 1998.
While the original Indian River Fruit Store no longer operates, the building remains a testament to Greenville’s rich commercial history and architectural heritage.
