First Presbyterian Church – Union
First Presbyterian Church, located at 101 West South Street, Union, SC 29379, is a historic congregation affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA). Established in the early 19th century, it has been a cornerstone of the Union community for over two centuries.
Historical Background
The church’s origins trace back to 1817, when the first Presbyterian church building was constructed in the village of Union. By the 1830s, the area around the courthouse, known as Jail Hill, had developed into a bustling business district, with the church playing a central role in the community’s growth.
In 1881, plans were initiated to build a new church edifice in a more central location. By 1883, fundraising efforts were underway to furnish the new building, with the congregation actively participating in these endeavors.
Worship and Community
First Presbyterian Church is committed to being a faithful witness to Jesus Christ in Union County and beyond. Through worship, discipleship, service, and love, the congregation strives to embody the community of faith that God desires.
