County Savings Bank
The County Savings Bank in Abbeville, South Carolina, has a rich history dating back to the early 20th century. Established on April 24, 1907, it was originally known as the Building and Loan Association of Abbeville. The institution aimed to encourage regular savings among residents to facilitate homeownership, a significant step at a time when banking services were primarily accessible to the wealthy.
In 1910, just three years after its inception, the association had already enabled twenty-seven families in Abbeville to become homeowners. Over the years, the institution underwent several transformations, reflecting its growing role in the community. It later became known as Abbeville Savings and Loan, expanding its services beyond home loans to include various financial products.
By 1987, the bank had doubled the size of its facility on South Main Street and had grown its assets to over $36 million. In 2013, to better represent its comprehensive banking services, the institution adopted the name Abbeville First Bank. As of recent reports, the bank boasts assets exceeding $120 million and continues to serve the community with a range of personal and business banking solutions.
