Christopher Orr House
The Christopher Orr House, located in the historic district of Anderson, South Carolina, is a significant example of early 19th-century architecture and local history. Built around 1834, it is considered one of the oldest surviving residences in the area. Originally constructed as a two-story Greek Revival-style home, it served not only as a residence but also as a tavern, inn, and retail establishment, reflecting the multifaceted role of early settlers in the region
In 1844, the house was relocated several blocks to its current site on Manning Street, within the original town boundaries. This move preserved the structure, which is notable for its marble mantels and basement rooms that were used as office apartments.
The house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Anderson Historic District. It remains a private residence, and its preservation contributes to the understanding of early life and architecture in Anderson.
