The Cherokee County Courthouse stands at 125 E. Floyd Baker Blvd, Gaffney, SC 29340, serving as the primary seat of county judicial and administrative affairs.

Gaffney became the county seat when Cherokee County, South Carolina was formed in 1897 — and the current courthouse, in what is considered its second building, was constructed between 1929 and 1930 to replace the original brick courthouse from 1898.

Architecturally, the building is styled in a Neoclassical / Classical Revival aesthetic: a two-story gray limestone structure, rectangular in shape and set on landscaped grounds in central Gaffney. The main entrance is centrally located with a stone frame, flanked by light standards; the east and west wings project slightly from the main block, and a projecting cornice runs below the flat roofline.

Functionally, the courthouse houses the 7th Judicial Circuit’s full range of county courts — including Circuit Court (both criminal and civil/General Sessions), Family Court, and the Clerk of Court’s offices for filing, jury administration, child support, and civil-probate records. Official business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Beyond its civic role, the courthouse also contributes to the historic character of Gaffney’s downtown. The surrounding city is known for its early-20th-century downtown core, with much of the commercial district (built across 1900–1930) reflecting Neoclassical, Italianate, Romanesque Revival and Renaissance Revival styles — making the courthouse part of a broader historic fabric of the town.
