Charlton Rauch House
The Charlton Rauch House is a historic residence located at the intersection of Main and Cedar Streets in Lexington, South Carolina. Constructed in 1886, this 2½-story frame house is an example of vernacular Queen Anne architecture, featuring an irregular floor plan and a gable roof. Distinctive elements include a one-story hip-roofed porch with a second-story shed-roofed porch, a two-story polygonal bay on the façade, and a three-story projecting polygonal bay on the right elevation, all adorned with sawn friezes, balustrades, and turned posts with brackets.
Designed and built by architect Frank Smithdeal, the house was commissioned by Charlton Rauch, a local businessman who operated a livery stable and was involved in cotton buying and general merchandise. The property occupies approximately one acre and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 22, 1983, recognizing its architectural significance and contribution to the local history.
