Carlisle-Wallace House
The Carlisle-Wallace House. James H. Carlisle lived in this house from the day the college opened in 1854 until he died in 1909. As President of the college from 1875 through 1901, he is credited with leading its revival after the Civil War and Reconstruction. One of Wofford’s great scholars, the historian David Duncan Wallace, lived in this house for more than 40 years.
