Alumni House
The Alumni House stands as a pillar of Erskine College’s history—rooted in craftsmanship, evolving through varied institutional roles, and now lovingly restored to enrich campus and community life. It reflects architectural eminence and cultural continuity from the late 19th century to today.
Situated at the corner of Washington and Main Streets on Erskine’s campus. Originally built in 1880 by merchant Henry Pinckney McGee, and attributed to local architect John Henry Wren; widely regarded as the finest house in Due West.
Renovations began in June 2021, after the house stood unused for a decade. It now serves dual purposes:
- Erskine Alumni Association offices and meeting facilities
- Welcome center for alumni, campus visitors, civic events, and private gatherings.
Built with enduring 12″ thick brick walls still in excellent condition; concealed 4 brick chimneys with decorative cross patterns, now hidden by a steepened roof .
