Bivings-Converse House
The Bivings-Converse House is a historic home located in Spartanburg, South Carolina. It was originally built in the 1830s by Dr. James Bivings, who established Bivingsville Mill, which eventually became the well-known Glendale Mill, was a central part of the industrial boom in South Carolina’s Upstate during the 19th century.
The house is a beautiful example of antebellum architecture, with influences from the Greek Revival style that was popular during the period. Over time, the house became associated with Dexter Converse, who purchased it and further cemented its importance in the history of South Carolina’s textile industry. The house reflects the era’s prosperity, tied directly to the success of the textile mills in the area.
